DEFTONES Working On 'Next Groundbreaking Record'

October 8, 2007

The DEFTONES have issued the following MySpace bulletin:

"On July 28th, DEFTONES wrapped up their 246th show in support of 'Saturday Night Wrist'. Inspired, and wasting no time, the band has immediately returned to 'The Spot' in Sacramento to write their sixth studio album. For the first time, the band has created an official blog to document the writing process. The doorway to the blog is through the sacred hearts on Deftones.com. Check back often to stay connected with DEFTONES as they create the next groundbreaking record in their legacy."

DEFTONES frontman Chino Moreno told Billboard.com in May that the quintet had set up a backstage writing room on tour where they were creating new material.

"We're going in there and playing as five of us in the room with just our instruments, no other distractions," he explained. "That's how we started out, basically, when we first started the band — us in the garage, no ProTools or anything to get us ahead of ourselves. We'd just play things over and over again, until we remembered it — that's the rawest way you can do it, and the best, I think."

Chino Moreno's TEAM SLEEP side project is currently working on a new full-length record with no set release date yet. In the meantime, TEAM SLEEP is planning several multimedia Internet releases to be announced in the near future. Fans are encouraged to e-mail any pics and video that they may capture of the band on tour to [email protected] for possible use on the band's web site.

TEAM SLEEP will take to the road in November for a string of gigs. Joining them on the trek will be former FROM FIRST TO LAST frontman Sonny Moore, plus rotating openers MONSTER IN THE MACHINE and STRATA. The tour kicks off November 29 in Orangevale, California, and continues through December 16 in San Francisco.

TEAM SLEEP's members include Moreno (vocals, guitar),Zach Hill of HELLA (drums),DJ Crook (turntables),Todd Wilkinson (guitar) and Rick Verrett (bass/keyboards).

On the subject of the upcoming tour, Wilkinson said. "We will be performing songs from the record and some new songs which we're currently working on. Touring with some of the new songs is definitely going to be of help to the writing process."
